About St. Joseph Parish
The second oldest of the three LaPorte Catholic parishes, St. Joseph's was founded in 1858 by German Catholic immigrants. The parish has the distinction of worshiping in the original structure that was built by its founders. St. Joseph's is a beautiful, multicultural Catholic community with a commitment to living our lives for each other in the name of Jesus Christ. It is now one of three churches that makes up LaPorte Catholic Church. To learn more about the the founding of the parish, explore the link below.
St. Joseph's Jubilee Booklet, 1858-1935
Below is a link to a scanned copy of a booklet created for the Jubilee Celebration of St. Joseph Parish. It gives a very thorough history of the priests who served at St Joseph’s until 1935, the priests and religious who grew up in the parish, a history of Holy Family Hospital, St. Joseph’s School, and some other interesting information on St Peter’s, Sacred Heart, and the names of many parishioners in various roles. The scanned booklet is provided by Tom MacLennan to share with the rest of the Parish. There may be some names you know, or information that is new to you. This is a wonderful piece of history. |
