First, thank you for your interest in NCYC 2021. Next, grab a snack because this is a long email with very important information. I strongly urge you to read and re-read this information before making any decisions.
As we all know, NCYC is an amazing experience for Catholic youth, but as you could have guessed, this will look very different this year. We have two possible options this year, and we do not have to stick together, these options are really to accommodate everyone's level of comfort.
Option 1: NCYC in Indianapolis
This year, NCYC will be a ticketed event with space limits. They are offering 10,000 tickets total, meaning 10,000 youth and chaperones. Usually General Session is held in Lucas Oil Stadium, but because this is a drastically smaller attendance, they have not officially announced where the large General Session will be held. Those attending NCYC in Indianapolis will need to schedule out their breakout sessions ahead of time (before you could choose whichever breakout session you wanted to attend in the moment).
Cost: this is an estimate given by the Diocese as to how much NCYC will cost per person
If participant is one of 4 persons to a room: $400
If participant is one of 3 persons to a room: $450
If participant is one of 2 persons to a room: $545
If participant is one of 1 persons to a room: $835
The Diocesan package price will include: NCYC ticket registration, hotel, 1 diocesan social gather, and a souvenir item (likely a t-shirt).
Somethings to keep in mind:
- In the past the Diocese would inter-mix youth ministries in order to accommodate 4 persons to a room, this is not an option this year. Thus, you might be inclined to the 4 persons to a room option, however it will depend on how many people are in our group and the preference of other participants.
- This estimate does NOT include other items such as meals, spending money, and transportation.
COVID-19 Safety Guidelines:
The National Federation of Catholic Youth Ministry has put out these guidelines that everyone is expected to follow while attending NCYC. Of course, things could change between now and then.
- required masks and social distancing
- limited session capacity and participant groupings
- designated areas for food and beverage consumption
- sanitizing stations and period cleaning of frequently touched surfaces
- no facility access for those experiencing symptoms of COVID-19
Option 2: Local (Virtual) NCYC
I know. We're all D O N E with the virtual stuff. BUT, hear me out:
The Diocese may be offering another option if there is a large interest. They have put out the idea to host a local NCYC event for streaming, small group discussion, and activities. We would still (virtually) attend all the General Sessions and breakout sessions as a Diocese. There is no estimated cost for this, but I can almost guarantee it will be drastically cheaper than the first option.
Right now, the Diocese does not offer a Diocesan Youth event. (TAPT has retired). I think this would be a great substitute this year. The thing that is most attractive about this is the community aspect. As powerful as it is to be in a stadium full of 20,000 Catholic teens, that will not be a reality this year due to limited spaces. If you go with this option, you would get the opportunity to meet other Catholic youths of the Diocese! Teens that you can hang out with outside of this event, teens that understand the culture of NWI, teens who could be just a 30 minute drive away!
At this point in 2019 we were well over halfway done fundraising. Cost should never be a deterring factor for those wanting to attend NCYC, but due to our time restraint, we will only be doing 2-3 large fundraisers as a group (TBD). The rest of the fundraising will be independent.
How do we choose?!
I am open to sending groups to both events! Please understand that I will have to attend NCYC in Indianapolis if there is a group interested, but that should not stop those who would like to attend the Diocesan NCYC.
I understand if you need time to talk this information over with your family, however we are on a time crunch. I have a survey below. Please fill this out as soon as possible as spots are filling up fast.
